My kids love this sweet dessert hummus recipe for snickerdoodle hummus. It’s a slight twist on cookie dough hummus, but just as fast, easy, and delicious!
I know, MORE HUMMUS!
I’m really not trying to spam you with dessert hummus galore… chocolate hummus, cookie dough hummus, cake batter hummus, and now snickerdoodle hummus…
But when you find a recipe your kid loves – AND IT’S MADE WITH BEANS – I’m sure keeping it to yourself is breaking some unwritten parenting rule.
It was like the time I made black bean brownies and the kids had no idea. NO IDEA AT ALL!
I made them, didn’t tell them there were beans, and they ate the whole pan.
That led to white bean blondies, which my kids also devoured within minutes.
They knew the blondies had beans though, BUT since they were won over with the black bean brownies in the first place, they didn’t care.
In my book, that’s the key to getting kids to eat beans: finding just one recipe that they like.
Once you have one, you’re good to go.
If your kids haven’t fallen in love with black bean brownies, white bean blondies, chocolate hummus, cookie dough hummus OR cake batter hummus yet, try pumpkin swirl black bean brownies.
Better yet, try this snickerdoodle hummus.
Most of the dessert bean recipes I’ve tried tend to fall in either camp chocolate or camp vanilla. Snickerdoodle hummus is a clear exception because it’s primary flavor isn’t chocolate nor vanilla. It’s cinnamon.
If your child doesn’t like cinnamon, I don’t suggest making this recipe for them. There’s lots of cinnamon and there’s no getting around that.
BUT, if your child doesn’t mind cinnamon or even likes it, then DEFINITELY make this recipe!
My kids might be weird, but they like eating hummus with a spoon. A big scoop of hummus on their plate more than satisfies my protein requirement in a lunch – just ¼ cup has more protein than a PBJ!
If your kids aren’t likely to eat hummus with a spoon, try other super easy ways to enjoy it with foods like apple slices, pita chips, peaches, or carrots for dipping.
You could also smear snickerdoodle hummus onto homemade pita bread or homemade tortillas and wrap around a banana – this is a great option for the smaller kids who like to hold their food with their hands.
Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus
Now that you have ideas for serving, let’s talk about making snickerdoodle hummus.
This particular recipe is much different than my other dessert recipes, for a variety of reasons. Here’s what I learned, in case you want to try making substitutions based on what you already have on hand. (And using what you have on hand is a GREAT way to reduce grocery spending, it’s one of the principles I teach in Grocery Budget Bootcamp! What type of nut butter can I use in Snickerdoodle Hummus?
The recipe below calls for almond butter. You can substitute cashew butter without a problem, or the equivalent ¼ cup of whole cashews.
I don’t recommend substituting whole almonds, whole peanuts, or peanut butter. The former will change the texture and the latter will change the flavor.
If you regularly substitute sunflower seeds in these types of recipes, you’ll probably be fine.
What types of sweeteners are used for dessert hummus?
My cake batter hummus calls for a tiny bit of granulated sugar in order to get that signature “cake” flavor and texture, but maple syrup won out in snickerdoodle hummus.
I also added a tiny bit of molasses for the depth of flavor that snickerdoodle cookies tend to have.
Are spices like cinnamon & vanilla used in Snickerdoodle Hummus?
Snickerdoodle cookies are packed with cinnamon (as are my cinnamon oatmeal blender waffles), so this recipe is too. You can reduce slightly if you’d like, but any less than 1 teaspoon and you run the risk of not tasting the cinnamon at all.
We’re also using a good bit of vanilla, for the signature cookie flavor. We tested with and without vanilla, and with definitely won. Here’s how you can make your own vanilla extract at home since it’s cheaper to make your own than buy it in the long run.
Why does Snickerdoodle Hummus have baking powder & salt?
I can’t exactly pinpoint the reason why baking powder makes this recipe taste good, but it does. It was very clear when testing with the kids – “without” got a stink face and “with” got a smile with a second helping.
I make my own beans from scratch because it’s cheaper (here’s my method for soaking to reduce gas and improve digestion, and here’s how I cook them in the slow cooker). Because of this, I add salt to the recipe for flavor.
If you’re using canned beans, I suggest not adding salt until the very end and adjust to taste.

I made this tonight and only tasted a bit (will dig into it tomorrow with my daughters), but what I tasted was good! We also loved the chocolate hummus. I’m commenting tho, because my Blendtec (which I just got a few weeks ago, with the Wildside jar) isn’t cooperating with blending this. I had to add all the liquid in to get it to blend somewhat and even had to add in another tablespoon(ish) but when I finally gave up and scooped it all out, I still found a couple unblended chickpeas. Thoughts? As I thought somewhere you mentioned using your Blendtec for these recipes. (I think it’s just too thick for it – it pushes it all to the sides and then isn’t blending anything.
I try moving it back to the middle with my spatula, but it only blends for a bit (maybe 10sec) and then it’s all pushed to the side again.)

Hi Julie,
With using a good quality blender like a Blendtec or a Vitamix, rather than a food processor, it isn’t uncommon to have to push hummus ingredients toward the blade while blending them. I usually divide the liquid and add more if I need to. I hope this helps. 🙂
Tiffany
Hi Julie! I normally use my Twister Jar for hummus if I’m using my Blendtec. If you had issues, I’d go the food processor route instead!
Corri
Made it today for lunch and am eating it with some sweet potato chips. Mmmmm! I used almond butter and sugar free maple syrup. Will try with the real deal next time, but it is still wonderful.
Jovana
I made this and me and my six year old love it : ) Thank you!
Brittany @ Team Crumbs
Hello Jovana,
We’re so glad you both enjoyed this hummus recipe! Thank you for sharing.
Angela DeBenedetto
This sounds so yummy. Wonder if this can this be baked into cookies?
Kyare - Team Crumbs
Probably not, however, we do have a great snickerdoodle cookies. https://dontwastethecrumbs.com/snickerdoodle-cookies/
Mali Klauseth
I made this today, definitely tasty, I had to tweak it a bit though, since maple syrup is about 10$ pr cup here (Norway). I used date syrup instead, and added a few table spoons of milk 🙂
Kyare - Team Crumbs
Mali, happy to hear you enjoyed it!

Someone posted they tried peanut butter but next time we would use the other Nut Butter I’m just wondering why? I only have peanut butter in the house but before I try it I wanted to kind of find out why.
Tiffany
Peanut butter has a very strong taste, so this hummus will taste very peanut butter-y rather than like snickerdoodle. 🙂
Tiffany
I love those modifications Benjamin!! Thank you for sharing!
Tammi
I love this stuff!!! I even like it better than the chocolate hummus, and my kids love both -WIN!!
Tiffany
YAY! I’m so glad you all like it Tammi!
Laura
I’m looking forward to making these with sunflower seed butter for my tree nut allergic kiddo. We enjoyed the chocolate hummus 👍👍
Tiffany
Oh good!! I hope you like this version too Laura!
Laura
How long will this keep once made? I’d like to make it 2 days in advance. Thanks!
Tiffany
I’d say you have up to 4 days Laura. After that, use the smell test!
Stacie
Awesome Awesome recipe. Did one batch with navy beans and one with chickpeas. Both good, but we think the chickpea version is best–truly delicious! Thanks for the recipe. We’re going to bake the black bean brownies today.
Tiffany
You’re very welcome Stacie! I hope y’all like the brownies too! They’re one of our favorites. ♥
Kat
Love love love this recipe. I didn’t have almond butter so I replaced it with peanut butter. Next time I’ll make sure to use almond butter. I also added an extra 1/4 cup of maple syrup bc I have a bad sweet tooth! But it turned out delicious. My kids loved it. I loved it with strawberries.
Tiffany
This is one of our favorites too Kat – so glad you like it!
Mary Powell
I made this with white beans instead of garbanzos. Much milder flavor for dessert hummus. Delicious!
Tiffany
So glad you liked it Mary!

Oh dear ! My story exactly ! Thank you so much !
Annette
I’m curious as to the reason there is baking powder in this. Also, Which dessert hummus is your children’s favorite or, if I make one, which one do I start with? Thanks!
Tiffany
Hi Annette! The baking powder is for flavor. We tried with and without, and with won hands down. Strange, I know! My kids LOVE the cookie dough hummus most, so I recommend starting there. 🙂
Kitchen fairy
This seems like a fantastic idea, and based on your other recipes, I’m pretty sure it’s delicious. We just need to give it a different name, because cake batter hummus, snickerdoodle hummus, cookie dough hummus… Let’s just say that there’s cognitive dissonance there, and it’s less appetizing than you might think. Looking forward to trying this one, because I have a kid who seems to exist on light and air, and she could use some protein!
Tiffany
I’m open to other naming conventions – throw them at me!
