Have you ever REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanted to make something for dinner, only to realize 5 minutes before start time you didn’t have everything you needed?
That happened to me just the other day when I went to make my Caesar salad dressing recipe for Kale Caesar Salad. I had everything I needed… except the mayo.
So I improvised, and created a no-mayo Caesar salad dressing recipe that’s SO GOOD, you won’t even miss the mayo! It’s made with healthy probiotics in yogurt.
Homemade No Mayo Caesar Dressing (No Egg)
Now, I realize that I could have easily made my failproof homemade mayo recipe. Because it really is failproof and it takes just 2 minutes.
But honestly? I was feeling lazy. Those two minutes were two minutes I wanted to spend on the sofa and not in the kitchen!
My laziness worked in my favor this time because this homemade no mayo Caesar dressing version is:
- Just as flavorful as my original Caesar dressing
- Slightly more shelf stable (because you’re not relying on mayo, which sometimes doesn’t last as long as we need it to)
- Made with yogurt, and another way to consume probiotics!
- Ready in 2 minutes
- Can be made dairy-free
P.S. I love using mason jars for homemade dressing and these lids make it super easy to shake and pour!
Here’s What You Need
We already know you DON’T need mayo and you DO need yogurt, but here’s what else you need for this healthy homemade Caesar dressing:
- Plain Greek Yogurt. Full-fat, low-fat, and fat-free all work, but it needs to be plain. Try my homemade recipe.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Lemon Juice. Freshly squeeze or bottled.
- Anchovy filets. Or anchovy paste, if that’s what you have.
- Spicy Brown Mustard. Or something similar, like Dijon.
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Pepper
- Parmesan Cheese (optional)
This might seem like a long ingredient list, but I assure you, this dressing comes together FAST!

That’s it!!
FAQs
It doesn’t taste like fish, I can tell you that! Anchovies are salty and briny, and they do have a distinct flavor… Caesar tastes like a more expensive, more polished version of ranch… with a kick!
Yes, my no mayo Caesar dressing is good for you! With the health benefits of the probiotics in the yogurt and healthy fats in the fish, you can’t go wrong!
If you’d like to make this recipe dairy- free, use dairy-free yogurt and skip the cheese!

I am getting ready to make the recipe but I had to look up how much anchovy pays to use for 2 oz of anchovy fillets. I found online that between three and five teaspoons of paste, depending on your taste, are equivalent to 2 oz of anchovy fillets. I also had to look up how many cloves of garlic to substitute for 1 tsp of granulated garlic. It comes out to about four cloves of garlic. It would be so helpful if this was specified because not everyone has anchovies or granulated garlic. Thank you!

Hello Catherine!
Thank you for sharing those helpful tips! 🙂
Debra
Can you make this with anchovies paste? Can’t get filets.

Hi Debra,
We haven’t tested that but it sounds like a great substitution. Will you try it and let us know how it goes?
