Thank GOODNESS this is the last week of the grocery budget. We’re out of so many things… onions, garlic, cranberries, FRUIT… but we’re making do and scraping by with what we have in the pantry. Snacks have consisted mainly of the one-of-this and two-of-that, but the kids don’t mind and I’m cleaning out the cupboards in the process. Score!
I started out this week $4.58 over budget so I knew it would be close. I made three trips and looking back, I probably could have changed one trip to lower my bottom line just a hair more.
Savemart – $5.30
Since family dinner was on Monday night instead of Sunday, I had tacos on the menu for Sunday. This included homemade tortillas, but I failed to put two and two together and realized at 2pm Sunday afternoon that we wouldn’t get home from evening service until 6:30pm, and then I’d start cooking. It takes about 30 minutes to make the tortillas and frankly it would have made dinner even later than it was already looking to be. I gave in and bought a package of tortillas, a can of jalapenos (for the salsa) and cilantro (for both the salsa and tacos).
Later in the week I picked up a head of lettuce for our DIY salads. Can’t really avoid that one, lol.
** Looking back now, I could have opted to change the menu from tacos to coconut shrimp. I would have needed to purchase canned pineapple (since Mr. Crumbs blended my stockpile into smoothies), so the change would have shaved maybe $2 off the total.
Costco – ($5.50)
I returned some strawberries that had started to prematurely mold. No issues with Coscto’s excellent return policy, but this is not the first time we’ve had to return produce there. We’re only a few miles from a large farmer’s market, so I’m seriously considering buying our produce there each week. Although I got a new toy for my birthday so expiring fruit may not be an issue anymore…
Total for June – $304.38
Despite being a few bucks over budget, I’m really excited! This is the closest I’ve ever been to being in budget! I’m hoping I can do just as well next month – keep your fingers crossed!

Just curious your $300 budget it this (((only))) food or does this include cleaning, paper, and hygiene goods
This budget includes everything. I do have a fairly decent stockpile for hygiene goods, which is why I haven’t had to purchase any, but when I was stockpiling and when I have to again, it all comes out of the same budget.
Nice work on your budget ! In our household, it always seems like the short trips to stores for small items push us over. Thanks for keeping us updated.
Great work Tiffany! Love following your updates
Thanks for following!
Great job! I applaude you!! It’s tough to stay on budget but it really feels good when we do it.
Wow, I’m impressed. I like what I’m seeing on your blog. I’m going to subscribe. That’s a big compliment. I don’t subscribe to many blogs. ~smile~

Thanks Laura – I’m honored! You’ve got quite a family to feed. I understand being concerned about the cost of meat with two young men raging through your cupboards!
