Can you hear the music playing?
Happy Birthday to Me,
Happy Birthday to Me,
Happy Birthday dear Tiffany,
Happy Birthday to Me!
Hey! I just realized that my name makes this song rhyme!
Wow… and it only took me 32 years to realize this…
Onward Forward People! Let’s talk about the food!
I have some of our family favorites lined up for this week, but we’re starting off with a big surprise. It’s tradition in our family to celebrate whatever occasion is at hand on Sunday night at the dinner table. If it’s Mother’s Day, the dads do the cleaning (and sometimes the cooking). If it’s Father’s Day, it’s a simple meat and potato-type of meal. If it’s your birthday, you get to choose what’s for dinner.
We’re switching up tradition in a couple ways this time. First, when I heard the “What would you like for your birthday dinner Tiff?” request last week, I intentionally avoided answering and let the question get lost in our conversation. Normally the person-of-honour jumps at the chance to have their favorite meal prepared. But despite the type-A planner person I am, I truly enjoy surprises. Since my dad and step-mom have AMAZING cooking skills, I’ve honestly never had a meal that I haven’t enjoyed. I figure that we’ll all have a great time regardless of what’s on the table!
Besides, choosing my ultimate favorite dish in a world where I only dislike three things is nearly an impossible feat. Not having to attempt this feat is my birthday present to myself.
Happy Birthday To Me!
Our second swap is that dinner is moved to Monday night. Half of those in the family have other committments on Sunday, so we’re switching. I’m cool with not cooking (or cleaning) on Mondays too.
The rest of the week is lined up with some of our personal favorites. We eat tacos at least once a month and the DIY salads from earlier this month were a hit so we’re doing a repeat. Friday is always pizza night and my dad hooked us up with steaks earlier in the month so instead of the tri-tip I originally had planned, we’re grilling those hunks of meat alongside some fresh produce and fresh out of the oven rolls. It all sounds delicious!

The Southwestern corn sounds delish! I’m having fun sharing your recipes with Wayne. We’re trying to eat more healthy, and he loves to cook.
Oh yes! Happy Birthday Tiff. Sounds like your day will be special. Enjoy!
Love,
Leona
Thanks Leona! The corn really is good. It originally started as a side dish with steak, but we used it on tacos when we realized we needed a veggie. It’s been a staple with taco night ever since!
Happy birthday! Haha…that’s too funny that it rhymes.
I’m loving how you have leftover days. Wish I could convince my boyfriend to participate in these…
Thanks! Maybe a “your on your own” day could help with leftovers? He may be more enticed to eat leftovers if he knew he had to cook otherwise.
