It’s the end of week 3 and I am cutting.it.close. My budget is $300 and before I even pull out the calculator, I know there’s not much left. Fortunately I’ve kept shopping slim this month plus I have everything I need for meals for the rest of the month. I even have some “spillage” on bulk items that will carry over into next month. But let’s go ahead and cross our fingers that something doesn’t creep up through the cracks between now and the end of next week! Here’s how I’m counting my crumbs.
Rite Aid – $17.37
To put it plainly, I bought lots of razors and toilet paper. Mr. Crumbs is particular about his razors, I had $10 expiring and it just so happened that Rite Aid was running a sale on these razors. I’m taking a small break from major couponing at the moment so I’m trying not to keep much reward money in my wallet (if I see money in there, I’ll want to go to the store to spend it in order to not waste it…). As soon as my Rite Aid reward money printed, I immediately turned around and spent it on toilet paper. Now we’re good on razors and toilet paper and I have only $3 in my wallet.
Savemart – $50.64
Mr. Crumbs made a stop for me to get super-duper jumbo shrimp (at an AWESOME price of $4.99/lb), bacon for Saturday’s dinner and half-and-half. He also picked up some of those little popping fireworks (the ones you throw at the ground) for the kids to celebrate Fourth of July with. That’ll be fun to watch!
I also made a quick stop to Savemart yesterday for produce. We’ve been doing a great job of eating what we have, plus we’re making tons of smoothies too! I bought avocados, red bell peppers, raspberries, strawberries, celery, cilantro, coconut, corn, cherry tomatoes, watermelon, blue cheese dressing and a free jar of cherry jam.
Target – $2.69
If you can believe it, we ran out of butter. Seriously. We bake with the unsalted sticks from Costco, but prefer Brummel & Brown for spreading on rolls and bread. Since I’ve been making homemade bread, Mr. Crumbs has been indulging himself with slices and some yogurt butter. Well he finished off the last little bit of butter earlier in the week and I don’t want to deprive him of eating my delicious bread, so I picked him up some butter.
Costco – ($3.79)
Remember how I bought spinach last week? Well it went rancid after only three days at home. Luckily Costco has an AMAZING return policy, so I took it back for a full refund and I’m adding my few bucks back into my budget.
Total for June – $304.58
There’s one week left in my budget and I’m $5 over. It’s better than last month, and much better than the month before, but I’m still over. I know I still need cranberries and I usually get those from Costco. Fortunately, they’re on sale this month and I have strawberries to return, so I’m hoping that my out of pocket will be minimal. Cross your fingers!
