Custom decorations add a touch that no one else has. And if they’re made by a friend, they’re made with love!
This project has taken me two years to make.
TWO STINKIN’ YEARS ? !
And it’s not even a room remodel or anything remotely close to that scale.
I almost feel embarrassed. When I used to make these for profit, I was able to complete two or three names in a single day.
SERIOUSLY ? !
What a difference it makes having two babies instead of one!
Fortunately I was making this particular name for a good friend of mine (the same friend I made cranberry scones for, and the same friend who I did nothing but complain to… she really is a good friend!). She was incredibly forgiving and gracious at the very late arrival of her baby shower gift.
Or does it now become a belated first birthday present?
Goodness, I don’t know. What’s the point of splitting hairs now? They’re finished and they’re awesome!
I designed these letter to match Monkey Bars bedding by Carters.
Not too shabby, eh?
I bought the letters from a wholesaler online (leftover connections from the business days), lightly sanded them and painted the backs white so that they would stand out against her tan walls. There’s no need to paint the front since they’re going to be covered with paper anyway. Save some paint, save some time!
After pouring over the bedding, I finally came up with a design that would look great with the overall theme of the room and each letter would be super-cute on its own.
I already had the paper and paint for this project so my total out of pocket was about $12 for the letters themselves. Of course if I were still in the business, I’d charge for my labor as well and two years worth of labor could be a nice paycheck!
It’s a good thing I don’t charge friends!

These are so cute! It is how crazy it can get with kids around the house. I’m sure your friend is in love with them no matter how long it took.
These are absolutely adorable. Great work on this!
Thank you Jodi!
These are great – I am sure your friend is pleased with the gift!
These are absolutely adorable! I don’t think your friend minded that they were late at all. Thanks for sharing with us on the Creative Corner Hop.

Thanks Sandy!
What fun!! What a fantastic nursery you have…and two years is not two long when you have to work around two kids. I have three. That means I get 3 years to get projects done, right?
I’d love for you to share this on at my new link party! Come on by, if you’d like.
Thanks for the invite! And yes, for every kid you have, you earn an additional year “grace period” for projects!
This turned out really well. What did you use to cut the paper? Did you just trace around the letters and cut the letters out with scissors, or did you use an exacto blade? Very cool!
Thanks Diana!! I have a cricut that I used on the leaves, but I used a small pair of craft scissors (i.e. very sharp) for everything else. I traced around and then cut out!
Thank you for participating in Show Your Stuff Blog Hop, You are invited to come back!
They look great! I know what you mean about getting things done faster for a profit
