With the help of Mr. Crumbs, I did a big shopping trip last week and covered everything that I had on “the list.” So, this week’s shopping was driven by Father’s Day. We needed a few raw materials (post coming Monday – I can’t tell you, remember!), so I picked up just a few foodie items while we were out. It’s hard to pass up delicious fruit when it’s so cheap!
Savemart – $10.38
Mr. Crumbs has recently discovered his love for smoothies (more on that coming soon). He made me one last week with mango, orange, coconut milk and spinach. It was delicious! I saw that Savemart had mangos on sale so I picked up a couple for me him.
Later in the week, Mr. Crumbs made a special trip for ice cream and whipped cream. While these spontaneous trips could be disastrous for my budget, the story explaining why he went made it a $8.38 well spent:
Boy is getting his shoes on, getting ready for VBS. Since Girl isn’t quite old enough, she’s staying home with Daddy. When she saw her brother getting ready to leave, she started to get upset. Daddy proposed that the two of them have a special “Dora Party.” Her tears turned to smiles and she waved her brother goodbye. Daddy and daughter then walked to the store together, bought two tubs of ice cream (they were buy one get one free, lol) and she got to choose her flavor – vanilla. They walked back home, made sundaes – with whipped cream and sprinkles – and watched Dora together on the sofa.
How sweet! I wish I could have been a fly on the wall to watch this moment in action!
Dollar Tree – $1
Since I was there anyway, I picked up some black pepper. We were low and it was added to “the list” a couple days ago. Don’t want to run out of pepper!
Safeway – $10.29
I logged into my Just4U account this week and saw a personalized price of $.99 for a dozen eggs. I picked up 4 dozen (the limit), bananas and pepitas. I meant to pick up coffee too, but forgot.
Costco – $45.74
Spinach, apples, strawberries, almonds, butter and coffee is all I had in my cart. Sometimes I feel like I’m shopping wrong at Costco. The bottom of my cart tends to be barely covered, while everyone else’s is overflowing!
Total for June – $237.67
The eggs and butter are replenishing my fridge with all the baking I’ve done these past couple weeks. I’m now out of bread flour, but I’ll substitute all-purpose in a pinch. The coffee from Trader Joe’s is FANTASTIC, but I’m fearful that it will be gone in no time and running out of coffee is a BIG NO-NO in our house. The 3lbs of whole beans should get us pretty far. I also have enough pepitas to get us through the rest of the month, so Safeway shouldn’t see me until July.
I’m well on-track to be within budget this month – YEAH! There’s a little over $60 dollars left in the budget and with only shrimp and a couple whole chickens left for the menu, things are looking good!
